Preliminary Economic Assessments
A Preliminary Economic Assessment is typically used to demonstrate the economic potential of a deposit and to justify further exploration and development work, based on conceptual designs and rates of production. An appropriate contingency is applied to recognise the provisional basis of the estimates used. Selection of a preferred Base Case is used to guide further engineering. Mineral reserves cannot be defined on the basis of a PEA.
Preliminary Feasibility Studies
Pre-feasibility studies refine the Base Case using preliminary engineering designs to identify the sizes and types of equipment needed for mining, processing and project infrastructure. Factors are applied to the budgetary cost of this equipment to estimate final cost including delivery and installation, piping, instrumentation, etc. A contingency factor is applied to provide for items not accounted for in the base estimate. Mineral reserves may be defined on the basis of a positive PFS. However, a PFS is not normally used to justify construction; rather, it is used to justify an investment in further project development.
Feasibility Studies
Feasibility studies optimise the Base Case and often are used to justify a decision to finance and construct a mine. A feasibility study requires basic engineering designs for all significant plant and equipment to allow estimates of material take-off and cost to be prepared based on supplier quotations for procurement and delivery. Capital cost estimates include the time and cost of engineering, procurement and construction based on forecast rates and productivity for labour and supervision. The capital contingency is made up of separate elements to reflect the level of engineering in each principal area of the project.
Due Diligence, Review, Audit and Mineral Property Valuation
Micon provides due diligence services for mine project financing, mergers, and/or acquisitions. Economic analysis and/or valuation of mineral properties and/or mining companies are needed for the independent determination of fair market value and in all levels of feasibility study.

Micon provides the full range of expertise including geologists, mine engineers, metallurgists, mineral economic specialists, and environmental and social scientists. Micon's associates include specialists in various disciplines depending on the complexities of the project.

Micon has recognized expertise in mineral property valuation gained through consulting assignments in all major base and precious metals, the energy minerals (coal and uranium), and a wide range of industrial minerals.
