Specialty Commodity Sector
The specialty commodity sector includes minerals and metals used in a wide range of high value strategic, industrial and consumer applications. Non-metallurgical properties of industrial mineral and specialty mineral products are valued in microelectronics, semiconductors, bio ceramics, and optical and communication systems while rare metals are required for renewable energy generation and storage components, such as high intensity magnets, batteries and capacitors, as well as energy saving devices such as light-emitting diodes. A partial list of minerals and metals of interest include high purity quartz, graphite, lithium, diatomite, rutile, silicon, tungsten, niobium, molybdenum, zirconium, tantalum, rare earth elements and high purity alumina.
