Micon is pleased to announce the following changes to its leadership team:
- Chris Jacobs, CEng, MIMMM, MBA, has been promoted to President of Micon.
- Liz de Klerk, M.Sc., Pr.Sci.Nat., SAIMM, has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Micon, in addition to her current role as Managing Director in the UK office.
- Karen Nash, MA, MPhil, MCIEEM, FRGS, has been appointed Vice President Environmental and Social Performance.
Chris is an expert in mineral economics. He is a chartered engineer and holds an MBA with 40 years of experience in the management of mineral exploration, project development and mining operations. Since joining Micon in 2004, Chris has undertaken due diligence, feasibility study, mine evaluation and litigation assignments involving gold, silver, nickel/copper/cobalt, iron, lead/zinc, tin, chromite, rare earth, vanadium and platinum group element deposits. He was appointed Vice President and elected to the Micon board of directors in 2008. Chris says “I am looking forward to working alongside Liz and Karen to take Micon forward at a time when the need for environmentally and socially responsible mineral exploration, mine development and production has never been more evident. Micon’s enduring principles of Integrity, Competence and Independence will continue to underpin our work as the mining industry evolves to meet new challenges.”
Liz has over 17 years of experience providing consulting services to the mining industry. Her core strengths in project management, compliant exploration standards, resource estimation and independent technical reporting have been an asset to the Micon team and the firm’s clients since joining the firm in 2017. Liz was appointed to the Micon board of Directors in 2019 and promoted to Managing Director (UK) in December 2020. In her new role as CEO, Liz plans to draw on her passion for business development as well as interpersonal management of the team in order to lead the Micon team to new heights in mineral industry consulting.
Karen is a versatile international environmental and social consultant and educator with over 30 years’ experience in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Strategy and Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability, Community & Stakeholder Engagement and Training & Capacity-building. Karen is active internationally in the natural resource, utilities, energy and education sectors, with a focus predominantly on extractives and energy transition developments. Based in France, Karen joined the Micon team in the fall of 2020 and is passionate about working with all stakeholders to ensure delivery of sustainable solutions to the environmental and social challenges of mining.
Micon would like to thank Richard Gowans for his many contributions to the success of Micon spanning almost 25 years, in particular as President for the last 13 years. We are pleased that Richard will continue in his role as a director of the firm and as Micon’s Principal Metallurgist and we look forward to working with him further in this capacity.
