Micon International Limited to Attend the 25th Mining Indaba in Cape Town

от | Янв 22, 2019

The year 2019 marks the 25th year of the Mining Indaba, Africa’s premier all-encompassing mining conference that consistently brings together the top brass of exploration and mining in Africa. In recognition of this achievement in longevity, coupled with the growing importance to our business of projects in Africa, Micon International Limited (Micon) will once again be in attendance.

The word ‘indaba’ describes an important organised gathering of the izinDuna, the principal men, leaders and headmen of the Zulu and Xhosa people of South Africa. Pioneered in the momentous year of 1994 in South Africa’s rich history, when the African National Congress party won a majority in the first multiracial democratic elections, the Mining Indaba has since metamorphosed into one of the world’s foremost mining investment forums and the largest mining event in Africa. Since its inception, the Mining Indaba has been dedicated to the capitalisation and development of mining interests in Africa. In excess of 7,000 delegates are expected to attend in 2019 leading to the Mining Indaba slogan of “Where the World Connects with African Mining™”.

October 2018 marked the occasion of Micon’s 30th anniversary, during which time Micon has consistently provided global independent professional advisory services to exploration and mining companies through its integrated network of offices principally in Canada and the United Kingdom. Over this time, Micon has been involved in a wide diversity of African projects from exploration target generation through to feasibility study management, for a range of commodities from phosphate to gold, and across Africa’s varied geological terrains from Senegal to South Africa.

Over the past four years, Micon’s involvement in exploration and mining projects in Africa has seen an overall increase. In 2018, 12% of Micon’s revenue was directly attributed to African projects, significantly higher than the 7% in 2017 and 9% in 2016. Halfway through the current financial year, African projects already account for an increased 13% share of Micon’s revenue, a growth trend which is expected to continue.

With many of Africa’s mining and exploration project owners being publicly listed in either Canada or the United Kingdom, Micon is well placed to service such clients and manage their projects. Further, the United Kingdom office enjoys a favourable time zone difference with Africa, whilst travel links between London and Africa are often better than on many intra-African routes.

In acknowledgement of this continued growth in Micon’s revenue stream from exploration and mining projects in Africa, a small reflection in itself of the growth of the African mining industry, Micon will be attending the 25th Mining Indaba from 4th to 7th February 2019. Micon will be represented by Senior Geologist Andrew de Klerk, a South African geologist, based in the United Kingdom office. Andrew has more than 15 years’ experience in South Africa and Africa as a whole.
